For the past few months I have felt a struggle inside me – a struggle to give shape to a dream, to create a platform where I can bring my love for teaching (and for learning), love for design and love for talking together, on the same platform, for it to prevail, teaching us all to dare to think differently, bravely, beautifully, and from being a teacher I want to be an awakener.
My interaction with people leaves me with the reality that a large section of people across generations would like to hone their knowledge of their History or their past, their origin and their culture and the new generation realizes that, to grow up without this, would be like being a tree without roots. They must be given the tools with which to explore these and come up with their own interpretations of how Life or Civilization unfolded and impacted the World and its people.
Is it enough for me to know this and look away?
Teaching children to count is fine but teaching them exactly what counts is what I want to do. Only then can they feel impassioned and empowered. And not just children. Anyone who wants to know, any age group, living anywhere in the world, with thoughts that they can and want to share, maybe provide a new perspective to an old thought, or have something significant to say which will leave everyone with food for thought!
I have been lucky. In my journey of Life I have had the privilege of knowing so many wonderful, talented, inspirational, erudite and knowledgeable people: people who are leaving behind footprints on the sands of time; people who are making a difference; people with voices to express ideas, opinions, choices, perspectives and it’s these voices which can create the music leading us to a path of tolerance, of inclusion, of healthier choices, of the freedom to think differently and live a more enriched life.
@MokshaTalks_Kolkata is the name of the dream that has been struggling to take shape inside me. More than 25 years after the birth of Moksha- the Art of the Free Spirit (https://moksha.net.in) –I feel the need to be ‘free’ again and soar: to discuss Literature or a piece of Art, to search for metaphors in Films and Plays, to understand the ecstasy of creation that the performing artists or writers go through, to appreciate Food, in relation to the seasons or the festivals or the region, to look at more serious issues that today’s world is being wracked with… the sky is the limit!! We were talking about ‘the art of the free spirit’ weren’t we? I am will be bringing to have once-a-month ‘Talks’ with people I know and who, I know, have lots to say about a whole range of subjects.
I will be presenting the show under the banner of Moksha: some Live, some on Zoom, some pre-recorded and these will get uploaded on YouTube for everyone to see and hear and hopefully, enjoy!
