Moksha creates elegantly designed sarees, salwar suit material, dress material, dupattas and scarves revealing a perfect blend of the colours of the sun, the sand, the mists, the oceanic blues, the autumnal rusts, the wintry whites. Handbatik and hand-painting are our preferred skills but our experimental line combines skills like Kantha stitch, Block prints, Tie and Dye – all of which are done by hand, painstakingly, and with care. We work on a wide range of premium fabrics like Crepe, Chiffon, Tussur, Gheecha, Silk, Mulmul and Kota. While we try to break away from the border pallu rigidity we are very focussed on wearable fashion. The products look tastefully different, will make you stand out in a crowd and transitions from work wear to evening wear with ease, always keeping the comfort quotient high.

A BRIEF HISTORY

Moksha was founded in 1996 by Shampa Mukherji, a teacher of English Language and Literature, Dramatics and Communication Skills. While teaching was a passion and brought Shampa joy, she found the need to find a channel for her creative ideas where she could blend her aesthetics and her interest in textile, handloom, design and colour schemes. As a student, she learnt Art from Mrs. Karuna Saha and took special classes with her. The more she delved into this world of colours the more she found a channel for freedom of thought and expression. She got formally trained in Batik techniques and explored that even further during her travels to Sri Lanka where Batik is a thriving Art form. In 1996 Moksh held its first solo exhibition at Obsession Gallery in Kolkata and that led to a Fashion Show organized by Sananda Tilottama in Kolkata along with Centre-Spreads for Sananda (the Fashion and Lifestyle magazine in Bengali) from the ABP group. Over the years Moksha has participated in several exhibitions across the world in England, Canada and America including the North American Bengali Conference (NABC). We’ve also had many successful showings at Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Kanpur participating in the Concern India Foundation exhibitions, and Crafts Council of Karnataka and Crafts Council of Chennai exhibitions.

“Design can be art. Design can be simple. That’s why it’s so complicated.” –Paul Rand
