The first ever Moksha exhibition was in 1996 but Moksha had forayed into the fashion scene of Kolkata in 1995 At that time it was all about Hand Painting and a lot of research went into the choosing of the designs and the themes that would get painted on the fabric. It was essentially an attempt to keep my creative instincts alive and find joy in the world of colours and designs and the translation of thoughts and ideas on to the fabric that I was painting.

First, there was a series of Dupattas on which I painted βSunβ motifs : I studied and intensely researched how the Sun was worshipped by civilisations around the world and how eminent painters looked at the fire in the Sun β and those designs painted on Black silks became Dupattas.
This series was chosen by Ms Aparna Sen, who was then the Editor of Sananda, a magazine from the ABP group, to be used for their Fashion pages on 8th December 1995.
It was all rather thrilling β to find appreciation for my Art and receive phone calls from people who had seen my work I watched as my creations were draped on models, locations were chosen, photo-shoots happened and suddenly I was a part of another Universe βfar far removed from my hitherto known world which had classrooms and blackboards!
