2023 has indeed been a remarkable year for Moksha. From forging meaningful collaborations that have expanded our creative horizons to hosting enlightening Moksha Talks that have sparked insightful discussions, the journey has been nothing short of fulfilling and exhilarating. As we look back, we are filled with gratitude for the experiences and opportunities that have enriched our path, and we eagerly anticipate the adventures that await us in the future.
Last year marked a significant revival in the realm of artistic expression for Moksha, particularly with the rejuvenation of hand-painted designs adorning silk sarees and kurtas. A pivotal moment for us was our inaugural collaboration with the esteemed Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee, culminating in a couture line themed around the evocative concept of ‘Windows’.
This collaboration birthed a limited-edition collection comprising six meticulously crafted sarees and six kurtas, each resonating with artistic brilliance. The response was overwhelmingly positive, reinforcing our commitment to celebrating artistry and innovation.
In homage to the cinematic genius of Mrinal Sen, on the occasion of his centenary year, we embarked on another creative venture. This endeavor saw us illustrating six dhotis, each intricately designed with symbols emblematic of six seminal films from Sen’s illustrious repertoire, paying tribute to his enduring legacy.
Furthermore, in honor of the 100th year of Tagore’s iconic work ‘Roktokorobi’, we crafted yet another exquisite series. Six distinct designs graced six dhotis, each capturing the essence and spirit of Tagore’s literary masterpiece, thereby immortalizing its significance through artistic interpretation.
For the occasion of Kali Puja, a captivating collection of handpainted sarees, echoing the powerful essence of Goddess Kali. A tribute to the divine feminine but also a testament to our commitment to preserving and celebrating cultural narratives.
Embarking on the revival of hand painting was a journey filled with challenges and exhilarating moments of discovery.
In our continuous pursuit of artistic excellence, Batik remains at the forefront, weaving its magic across an array of fabrics – crepes, silks, tussurs, ghichas, chiffons, cottons, and kotas. Each creation stands as a testament to our commitment to offering sarees that exude tasteful uniqueness, ensuring that every piece tells a distinctive story.
Beyond sarees, our artistic exploration expanded to include a versatile range of accessories and ensembles. Dupattas and scarves, long jackets, half-stitched kurtas, and the innovative ‘Dhoti Saree’ emerged from our creative workshop. The latter, a fusion of dhotis transformed into sarees adorned with Kantha work, redefines traditional wear, adding a touch of contemporary flair.
Kantha stitch, both as an accompaniment to Batik creations and a standalone technique, took center stage. From men’s wear featuring Kantha-worked dhotis and kurta materials to the innovative ‘Dhoti Saree’ concept, this traditional Bengali craft found new expressions in our collections.
