The first-ever Sananda Tilottama Fashion show happened on 28th September, 1996 at the Oberoi Grand Hotel, Kolkata.
Moksha had two sequences there –one on the Sun (this time in shades of brown on Tussur) and the other on Tantra art (going wild with orange and red and black of course).
For the Moksha sequences we were using only Hand painting on the Sarees and the Dupattas. .
The run-up to the event was a lesson in how events of this nature were organized: the choreography, the choosing of the music, the rehearsals, the accessories, my first experience in a world that had seemed glamorous from a distance but in reality consisted of grueling work! I treated it like a learning experience absorbing all that goes on, and actually found similarities between managing a set of adults practicing for a Fashion Show and a set students in school doing whatever it is that they have been asked to do!
It was a pleasure to meet other designers; watch the models change in to and out of outfits within seconds; watched the make-up artists at work, the back stage helpers doing such imaginative drapes, understand back-stage tensions and drama. Like I said it was a whole new world and the excitement I felt was that of a novice—almost like Alice in Wonderland!
